Our Privacy and Security Practices

Your information is strictly confidential and is not shared outside of the organization to protect your safety and ours. When people reach out to us via our contact methods seeking abortion help, we permanently delete these threads after the conclusion of your case with us. We do not store your personal data longer than the time it typically takes your abortion to complete. When contacting us on Signal we use disappearing messages. This doesn’t just protect you, it also protects us. However, we are still subject to the privacy policies of Signal and our email providers because we use these methods to communicate.

To protect everyone involved, Autonomy Iowa City does not engage in face-to-face drop offs for abortion pills or other related supplies. Our affiliates, such as the driver’s network and abortion doulas we work with, are outside of our organization and may still work face-to-face with clients.

Media Inquiries

Due to our privacy concerns, we are not able to respond to media requests of any kind.

Our Suggestions to You to Protect Your Privacy

Your internet service provider and web browser have the ability to identify you by logging your web traffic and collecting cookies or other digital fingerprinting data. Messages that are not end-to-end encrypted are more easily obtained by others. For this reason we suggest you use a virtual private network (VPN) that doesn’t log your web traffic, a browser that prevents the collection of cookies and other data (such as Tor), and choose messaging platforms that have end-to-end encryption (such as Signal). We also suggest securing your devices with a password or pin number so that if your device was obtained, it’s harder to break into.
