Autonomy Iowa City was established in 2022, originally as the Iowa City Jane Collective, by a group of reproductive justice activists, gestational care workers, abortion companions, doulas, and healthcare providers who believe that bodily autonomy is a human right. After the 2022 United States Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, we recognized that abortion access in Iowa was under threat. We organized to build a network of support, ensuring that abortion would be accessible to those who cannot afford (or simply do not want) to travel out of state to seek healthcare.
