Request Pills

Who can request pills?

You are eligible to request pills if you:

  • Are currently living in or near Iowa City, or can travel to it.
  • Cannot afford to buy abortion pills for yourself or have other barriers to buying the pills. The cost of the pills is typically $30-$250 depending on the seller.
  • Are less than 12 weeks pregnant. If you don’t know how many weeks you have been pregnant, you may use this calculator.
  • Meet the medical safety criteria:
    • You do not have a bleeding disorder, chronic adrenal failure, or are allergic to mifepristone or misoprostol.
    • You have not been told you have an ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancies are very rare. Abortion pills will not hurt you if you have an ectopic pregnancy, but they will not work. An ectopic pregnancy is a true, life-threatening medical emergency that requires a surgical abortion to treat.

How do I request pills?

To request pills, send a message on Signal or to our Proton Mail account with the following information:

  • The number of weeks you have been pregnant. This helps determine the number of pills you will need.
  • If you meet the medical safety criteria listed above.
  • If you have an IUD and need resources to get it removed. It’s recommended that you have your IUD removed before using abortion pills, but having an IUD is not a contraindication.
  • If you are on long term steroids, such as Dexmethasone or Prednisone. If you are on these medications, it’s not recommended that you take Mifepristone (the first abortion pill in the kit), but you can do a misoprostol only abortion.
  • A name and address (with zip code) we can mail the pills to. If mail is not an option, tell us and we will establish a drop off location in the Iowa City area, then give you instructions on how to get there.
  • If you would like us to connect you with a local abortion companion or doula. The abortion companions and doulas we connect you to are not a part of our organization nor can they give you abortion pills. They are simply there to answer questions and provide comfort measures.
